Dosing devices, also known as Feeders or Metering Devices, generally allow for the addition of a measured amount of material, usually an additive or colour, to an existing flow or quantity of material, usually a base resin and frequently regrind.

Dosing can be added to an existing flow of material on the throat of a processing machine, where it is triggered or controlled by the machine itself. In injection moulding, a dose calibrated to the shot size of the moulding machine is introduced into the gravity flow of the other materials as the machine cycles. Because the machine runs continuously in extrusion, constant dosing is provided at a set rate that corresponds to the speed of the extruder.
